Both Torelli and Fox share the captain roll on their respective teams. Each is more than just a competitor to her teammates. Instead, Torelli and Fox prove to have the confidence and drive, no matter the score or standings.
Torelli, captain of the swim team, has the leading expertise in the freestyle and the breaststroke. Last season she placed 13th in the 100 Breaststroke at New Englands. She also ranked second in team points last season in dual meets. It was made clear by head swim coach Mindy Williams in her season preview that Torelli would be a valued leader this year.
Torelli is no stranger to being honored for her outstanding work as a swimmer. Last year she was named to the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team. Torelli also boasted two "Shark of the Week" honors for her outstanding performance and exceptional spirit.
The Waterbury, CT native, who is studying psychology and english at Simmons, recently competed in her last home swim
meet of her college career. After clinching two first-place finishes last week, Torelli left the Holmes Sports Center with a splash.
Just as the swim team depends on Torelli for her talent and spirit, the basketball team has its own go-to player. Senior captain Stephanie Fox was also honored as the GNAC "player of the week" last week.
Fox was only the third basketball player from Simmons to be invited to the GNAC All-Conference ëfirstí team last year.
By putting up the numbers she has this year, there is no doubt that the strong forward will make a second appearance on the All-Conference team in 2010. Last week Fox set the single season block shot record with 49 blocks.
She also found herself at the top of many of the GNAC stats last week. Fox is ranked first in the GNAC in blocked shots and defensive rebounds. She is also ranked second in scoring and third in free-throw shooting and 3-point shots.
The West Springfield, MA native has recently joined the 1,000-point club. In between blocking shots and breaking records, Fox dedicates her time to her communications major.
